Camp David, Maryland, USA | 18-19 May 2012

At a critical time in international diplomacy, the world's leading industrialized democracies will meet in Camp David, Maryland for the next G8 Summit, May 18-19.

Leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, as well as the European Union, are expected to attend this year's gathering. Other global leaders are also expected to attend, including IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde

The meetings come at a particularly delicate time as the Group of Eight is demanding that Syria comply with all portions of a UN backed plan to end more than a year of deadly violence and warned Iran and North Korea not to engage in provocative behavior

The G8 venue moved from Chicago to Maryland, despite President Obama hosting the NATO Summit in his hometown of Chicago, 20-21 May. The White House is saying that the presidential retreat would allow for more intimate discussion, and denying that the possibility of protests was a factor in the decision.
