New free digital news distribution service for broadcasters goes live

Video News Agency launched to meet media’s demand for quality video content/EPKs

Video News Agency (VNA) is a new online service for broadcasters, journalists and web editors which provides free-to-use, downloadable video news content for the media.

Broadcasters and news agencies register for free videonewsagency.com

It has been developed to meet a growing media appetite for relevant, high-quality moving image content on a global basis, and is freely accessible and fully searchable for all broadcast journalists and media channels. Video files are indexed and tagged by sector and location for easy searching. In addition, all VNA content, whether downloaded or embedded, carries no watermark.

The footage available through the VNA platform includes web-ready video news reports, corporate announcements, documentary material, exclusive interviews and other royalty-free, independent content produced by private and public sector companies and NGOs.

VNA also supports the upload and transfer of EPK (Electronic Press Kit) material, making the process of quickly accessing and downloading broadcast quality footage much easier than before. Webmasters also have the option to embed video files and stream them remotely via VNA’s servers, rather than downloading and hosting the content directly.

To access, search or browse VNA’s database of video files and download content for free, journalists need to sign up at www.videonewsagency.com. Registered users can also set up email alerts that will let them know when a new clip matching their preferred industry and/or geographical criteria is uploaded.

VNA is already being used by a number of companies and organizations including international aid agency, the Mines Advisory Group, Lancashire County Cricket Club, Kellogg’s and tourism bodies visitBlackpool and Marketing Manchester.

Kellogg’s has uploaded its first Internet film for the UK market for National Breakfast Week and visitBlackpool have uploaded both a VNR and EPK of Robbie Williams’ switch on of the resort’s famous illuminations.

Recently comScore, one of the world’s leading digital marketing intelligence providers, reported that in the US alone the consumption of online video news and information clips had doubled over the previous year. Their figures reported that in May 2010 there were 565m video views, a rise of 277m year on year*.

VNA Operations Director, Daniel Kennedy, says, “VNA offers the world’s media access to the rapidly growing wealth of high quality news and feature footage that is increasingly being self-produced by businesses, NGOs and government.

“It has also been designed to meet the media’s need for quick and simple access to searchable and relevant content that is of a high enough editorial standard to upload or broadcast on their own channels. Journalists can quickly access the latest, most relevant digital material without waiting for discs, ftp links or embed codes.”

“VNA is aimed at bringing journalists and moving image content providers together. It will make finding and downloading the right type of footage much easier for journalists, and provide an organized and accessible platform for all types of editorially interesting film and video.”
