The digital age has changed the communications landscape radically in the past decade altering the way we communicate. In line with its Global Communications Strategy, UNHCR requires the services of highly skilled visual thinkers who are capable to use of technologies to develop creative solutions to the organization communications challenges, a to video producers capable of identifying, shooting, scripting, editing, and packaging videos for publication on its core websites and social media channels and for distribution to media partners. This body of work may include producing news and feature packages, pieces to camera, social media edits, single- or multiple-camera interviews, livestreamed or recorded events Instagram stories, serialized stories and short documentaries. It involves filming in the field as well as, on some occasions, in office or studio contexts. The overarching aim is to produce timely, accurate and compelling videos that help us lead the narrative on forced displacement, generate empathy and mobilize action. To do their jobs well, UNHCR's video producers need to cultivate a keen understanding of our target audiences including the substantive themes and video formats that resonate deeply, convey messages effectively and spark quality engagement. They must be vigilant about editorial and journalistic standards, attentive to protection concerns and political sensitivities, and focused on communicating successfully with key demographics. It is imperative that they are aware of the technical requirements and restrictions of different platforms and devices, including social media and smartphones, and that they document their work with accurate shot lists, dope sheets and other metadata. The video producers functions, working relationships and skills specializations vary depending on language, location, grade, and whether they sit within a country operation, a regional bureau or the Global Communications Service. For example, some will mainly produce original content, teaming up with a dedicated camera/editor; some will produce, shoot and edit on their own; and some will primarily adapt videos produced in other languages, adjusting tone of voice to suit audiences and platforms. |
