25.07.2024Sudan: Continued fighting puts hospital patients under threat *** ARCHIVE

One Touch Media

As more than a year has passed since the conflict in Sudan, human suffering has increased dramatically, especially with regard to dealing with medical cases whose fate has become threatened, in light of the current situation in which there are no prospects for a solution.

The fighting has put great pressure on kidney failure patients, who suffer from a lack of washing machines and consumables necessary for dialysis sessions, putting their lives at risk.

As a result of the ongoing fighting between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army, most of the hospitals in the triangular capital in Khartoum, Bahri and Omdurman have been closed by 80%, which portends a major crisis, especially for dialysis patients in areas of intense conflict, according to the World Health Organization.

Citizens in the city suffer from daily violations by the Rapid Support Forces, which prevent patients from reaching the dialysis center, in addition to being forced to travel long distances on their feet due to the lack of transportation in the capital.

Kidney centers, even those operating in relatively safe states, complain of the lack of medical consumables, in addition to the breakdown of dozens of dialysis machines as a result of patients crowding the machines and the lack of regular maintenance.
